DEDEMAN KONYA HAS BEEN AWARDED WITH A GREEN STAR CERTIFICATE
Dedeman Konya Hotel & Convention Center, the Pioneer of environment-friendly practices, has been awarded with a Green Star Certificate by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Dedeman Konya has achieved electricity, water and energy savings by providing necessary conditions and modernizations. The hotel aimed to reduce the amount of polluting wastes, increase the energy efficiency and providing education to the staff about the facility’s compatibility and environmentally-consciousness; and has succeeded in reaching its goal. In this context, Dedeman Konya has been awarded with an “Environment-friendly Accommodation Facility Certificate” by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Dedeman Konya that has been awarded with a Green Star Certificate applies many environmentalist practices. The hotel cooperates with environment-friendly organizations and recycles approximately 2040kg waste oil every year; consequently helps preventing water pollution. On the other hand, Dedeman Konya, collects the waste papers in 30 TEMA waste paper boxes, delivers them to TEMA, and for its every paper waste weighing 100kg, a tree is being planted on behalf of Dedeman Konya. The number of trees planted on behalf of Dedeman Konya in TEMA Forest increase everyday, while the “Dedeman Memorial Forest” built by Dedeman Konya staff keeps on growing. The waste soaps are collected and recycled into liquid soaps; the usage of harmful chemical stain removers is reduced. The hotel uses mainly rechargeable batteries and the used batteries are collected to be recycled; so the pollution caused by waste batteries is prevented.
Another environmentally-conscious activity that Dedeman Konya applies since June 2010 is collecting waste medicine in cooperation with TEB 3rd Region İzmir Chamber of Pharmaceuticals, as a part of the “Collecting and Disposal of Domestic Medicine Waste Project”. Dedeman Konya helps eliminating the risks caused by waste medicine for both the society and the environment. The wasted are decomposed and after sent to recycling while the staff is constantly being educated about the protection of the environment. On the other hand, Dedeman Konya cooperates with World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF); works for the “Adopt an Animal” project that aims to collect donations for the protection of water turtles. Dedeman Konya gives a “Water Turtle Certificate” to all the couples who have their weddings at the hotel. The idea first came up from the fact that water turtles live for around 150 years and throughout this time, they carry their nests on their backs; so they are a good symbol of building a “home”.
Dedeman Konya is a pioneer in the sector with its environmentally-conscious activities. The hotel has been awarded with an “Environment-friendly Accommodation Facility Certificate” by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and it continues its practices to ensure a clean environment for the future.
