Sultan Ahmet Mosque

Sultan Ahmet Mosque was built by Sultan Ahmet I in the 17th century, Sedefkar Mehmet Ağa, one of the students raised by Mimar Sinan.

Since the blue Iznik tiles are found intensely on the walls of the mosque, the mosque is also known as Blue Mosque. There are 21 thousand 43 eye -catching Iznik tiles on the walls of the mosque.

The wall surfaces are covered with tiles starting from the top window tops to the third row window. Particularly on the walls of Mahfil, the tiles are placed in a way that does not tire the eye in the space.

The worship section of the mosque is 64x72 meters in size. The central dome of 43 meters high is 23.5 meters in diameter.

There are 16 honor because of the 16th Ottoman Sultan of Sultan Ahmet, who built the mosque in the minarets. Together with the Sultan Ahmet Mosque Complex, it is one of the largest building complexes in Istanbul.

This complex consists of a mosque, madrasas, Hünkar Pavilion, Arasta, Shops, Hamam, Fountain, Sabiller, Tomb, Darüşşifa, Sıbyan School, Imarethane and Rental Rooms. The grave of Sultan Ahmet I was built adjacent to the mosque garden.
